Topsail Turtle Project sets training dates

Terry Meyer, Director of Beach Operations has scheduled training classes for volunteers interested in becoming part of our 2011 beach patrol. As a “beach walker” you will be assigned to a specific section of Topsail Island beach (approximately one mile) that you will patrol for sea turtle activity on your assigned day. You must be available to walk one morning a week during the nesting season, May 1 through August 31. A turtle’s tale

We try to name our new admits after the location where they were rescued (“Pier,” “Bogue”) or the particular circumstance that landed them in our hospital (“Sharky”.) Over three-hundred patients down the road we’re ready to admit that our well of creativity is running a little dry. That, coupled with the fact that our turtles adamantly refuse to check the “male” or “female” box on their admission form sometimes leads to embarrassment a year or two later. . . . → Read More: A turtle’s tale
